Success at Last

Well, sort of anyway!

On Friday we went for another fishing attempt and once more it was a very nice day on the water!  We did however, put down our two crab traps in a more accessible place and left them there overnight.  And what happened overnight - the wind came up and it was a fairly cool breeze.  There was some trepidation on behalf of The Captain as to whether we should go out or not but two things prevailed.  Number one - if there were crabs in the traps it would not be nice for them to be kept there any longer (best to be cooked and eaten by us rather than by a crocodile) and number two - that the wind was offshore (coming from the land).

So we waited for the tide to come in a bit more and off we went.  A bit of a bumpy trip across the bay, found our traps and damn, an empty one - even the fish frame we used as bait was gone.  The other one, however, was a lot more promising.  It was fairly heavy to pull up as it was stuck in the mud but it contained two very large, boy crabs!!!!  The boys must have been there for a little while as they had stripped the fish head clean and then started to fight with each other - lots of loose claws including one of the big ones.  But both crabs were very, very tasty!
Out of the mud and onto the deck

Nearly into the pot!

Buffalo Creek

Buffalo Creek is about two klms from where we are staying and is the better boat ramp to access some of the northern fishing (?) areas.  The pic above is from the top of the boat ramp (we were waiting for some more water).  The tide comes up to where the wheel tracks are and eventually covers all of the mud/sand flats.

Having a rest day today and if the wind dies down and the temperature warms up we might go down to the beach for a couple of hours.  Sorry, but someone has to do it!!
