At Last - In a Town Called Alice

Wednesday - and we finally made it to the geographical centre of Australia!  Although it is getting cooler as we head south and there is a certain Captain who is a little bit sad that we have crossed the Tropic of Capricorn but there is plenty to see around the area.

Now, was there anyone who picked up on the slight error in our last posting?  Even though it was Monday when we posted our last edition of our blog, we called it Tuesday.  We think that perhaps the health professionals have a name for that condition - the big "A" word!!!  Hmm, we might forget which way we are going and head north again where it is warmer!

After leaving Tennant Creek on Monday, we headed to the Devil's Marbles.  As we had both only seen photographs of the Devil's Marbles which showed the same rocks we had been under the impression that they encompassed a small area.  How wrong were we!!  Wide open plains interspersed with clumps of boulders in all shapes and sizes.  One can understand why the local indigenous people thought that the Rainbow Serpent had slid the area and laid eggs - cause that what some of them looked like!

The Parks and Territory people had even provided a cost effective camping spot for all of us weary travellers.
We went for two big walks around the area as well as climbing the big rock behind where we camped three times.  Once more, very awe inspiring and the amazing thing was that the rocks didn't move, no matter how hard you pushed them!!

Sunset On The Marbles

Enjoying The Sunset

After our adventures amongst the Marbles (no, they are not the ones I have lost) we spent another night at a free camp about 140 klms north of Alice Springs and then made the quick run into town this morning (Wednesday).  Helped the economy out again and off to do some more touristy stuff in the morning.

Meanwhile, The Deckie's Mum is recovering slowly in hospital after her mishap on the weekend.  Had a bit of a hiccup when her heart started beating a little bit faster than what it should have, but that has now settled back down.  The Deckie's sister, Jennifer, (who lives in the same general area as Mum) bought Mum an iPad so that Mum can, amongst other things, keep up with our blog - way to go!!
