The Daly River

After our abysmal attempts at fishing in Darwin, we decided to head to the Daly River to try our luck at fishing there.  This part of the Daly River is just a little bit to the south, and then west, of Litchfield National Park.
Another nice part of the world but you could still see where the flood waters had wrecked havoc in the area even though the surrounding plains are about 30 to 40 metres above the current level of the river - Mother Nature has some awesome powers!!

The concrete boat ramp was in good nick and so off we trotted with Tuf Cat in tow!!

Our first day on the water was reasonably successful.  The Captain was trying to teach The Deckie some more about trolling with lures and if one has caught a fish or a snag.  Lost a few lures, caught a few small barramundi and then The Captain's skills came to the fore when he caught his first keepable barramundi - only just, but still keepable.

A little later, The Deckie managed to land her first barra - a bit small but still it was her first!!

Having become a little bit enthused we headed the next day for another go.  And (drum roll please) The Deckie managed to land her first keepable barra and it was just that much bigger than The Captain's fish!!

The next couple of days weren't quite so prolific with keepable fish but we still had a go.  According to the 'locals'  who go there every year and spend 3-4 months there the tides were apparently all wrong.  And they were probably correct.  But we still had an enjoyable time.

Some of the obstacles that we had to contend with - snags in the river
